Where is Fall? Brrr...

Well, it's hard to teach about fall when it feels like WINTER!!! It was bitterly cold this morning. We had lots of friends coming in with hats and gloves. And yesterday it was in the 70's! Wow...what a change! We waited this morning to go outside until it warmed up a bit and dried out. Um....big mistake. We like our schedule. We NEED our schedule. It got a bit loud and hectic inside really quick. A lot was going on all at once, and at some point, a tornado came through. I missed it, but it left it's mark in the playroom ;) We had lots of new activities out today. It really amazes me how I can put out new things and the same children choose to come and participate, while some of them play with the same favorite items they have loved since day one. I guess some of us don't care for change too much!
Fall sorting, number and patterning activities. Today we had a very popular item. A pumpkin. A pumpkin and golf tees, with a hammer. Here is Junior hammering golf tees into one of our pumkins. Notice the audience!
Every year I do this activity I know it is going to be popular. It is great gross motor work, as well as hand-eye coordination, and almost theraputic for some children. Junior did this activity for a long time, and his friends just watched and waited for their turn. We had to make a list of who wanted a turn. We also took the pumpkin outside with us when we finally made it out today. Here is Joshua taking his turn:
We have been tallking the past two days about...Candy! We made a list of our favorites:
And today some friends brought in their candy wrappers and we put them on the chart to see all the differnt kinds of candy we collected on Halloween. So far, Tootsie Rolls are in the lead.
Junior brought in a leaf to show us from his house. We saw that it is still green!
Outside was cold, but we still had fun!
TOMORROW IS PICTURE DAY!!! :)

  1. Well you know what they say about the weather... If you don't like it, give it a little bit. ;)
